I'm often off road and in the mud in a 30 year old Range Rover. Most of the soil around here is sticky clay and even the best tyres get clogged sometimes, particularly when towing a trailer. The winch is great if you have a tree nearby but if you're in the middle of a field as I often am you need some help. The solution is a ground anchor to hook up to.
Anything off the shelf seemed to be designed for the American market and more towards sand or rock where the blade angle is different. They just don't work in clay.
Charlie Croker built this from heavy gauge mild steel with a steeper than normal blade angle. The pivoting arm allows me to use it on my own as I can stand on the foot pegs, steer the blade into the ground one handed and operate the winch with the other.
First test was pulling the Range Rover up a 45° slope with just the 12000lb winch, it worked perfectly. It dissappesrs into the mud hence the neon orange powdercoat. Don't want to risk losing it!
