Branding and reverse gilding on glass

MATERIAL: Gold Leaf

FINISH: Polished

SIZE: 3m

CLIENT: Raffman & Huckster

Raffman & Huckster is one of those shops that you want to buy everything from, Everything is beautiful and everything is carefully chosen, as the tagline says " Conscious Miscellany"

I designed the logo and produced all the window graphics. We decided from the start that this needed to be done in the traditional way. Old school hand painted signwriting and reverse gilding in gold leaf. Not a fast process but in this case vinyl just wasn't in keeping with the look the client wanted.

The shopfront as found was pretty rough, it had been butchered over the years with various nasty plastic signs and countless layers of paint.

On the off chance we decided to do a bit of investigation and under the rotting plywood and paint we found the original unbroken 1930's reverse painted glass sign and gilding on the windows corners. The new graphics were always going to be in gold leaf so this was a perfect fit. I had to get a bit creative with the amphersand as it sat right on the glazing bar but I think it works.

The owner @raffmanandhuckster is a delight to work with and I'm really pleased with the result.
